Personal Testimonies – Sharing His Story in Our Lives

One of the most powerful things that we can do in mission is share our story with the people we meet. Others may dispute doctrines, beliefs and theories, but they cannot dispute someone’s personal experiences. I am struck by the power of what a testimony is…a personal encounter with a living God. When we share our testimony, we give others a glimpse of the love relationship that exists between us and the Lord.

Before leaving the States, Erik had our whole mission team read and reflect on the Gospel story of The Woman at the Well. We have now been in Ghana a week and I am still thinking about the story, especially how the woman went back to her town and told the story of her encounter with Jesus. It was through her telling her story that others came to believe in Jesus.

Most afternoons we walk through the neighborhood where we are staying here in Koforidua, and ask the Spirit to lead us to the people that He wants us to minister to. Each time we go out and talk to the people, at least one of us is able to share a little testimony of how God has moved in our own life. Sometimes it is very simple, and sometimes it is more in depth, but every time it is a glimpse of His story in our lives. In His beautiful plan of mercy, even the most difficult times can be used to bring Him glory if we are willing to share what God has done in our lives.
