Rome Sweet Home

As we walked into St. Peter’s Square upon arriving in Rome, I was overcome with a sense of peace, joy and the familiarity of coming home.  I am very aware of how blessed I have been to visit Rome so many times in my life, and though this was my fifth time visiting the heart of our Church, as I looked upon the Basilica of St. Peter, I couldn’t help but be filled with awe and wonder at the beauty of our Faith.  With the life size creche still up from Christmas, we were reminded of the incredible love story between the Father and His children.  Praying the Apostles Creed at the chime of the bells in front of St. Peter’s, we gave thanks and praise for the GIFT of being sons and daughters of the KING!

We were incredibly blessed to have our friend Padre Pablo (a priest from Cordoba who works in the Vatican) show us around Rome and the Vatican.   We were able to go on the Scavi Tour, see the Papal Palace, walk through the Papal Gardens, go to Mass with the Missionaries of Charity who have a house in the Vatican and even made a day trip to Assisi with him!

We visited the Major Basilicas and several of the churches scattered around the holy city.  We prayed at the tombs of numerous Saints and Martyrs, asking intercession for each of you, our family, friends and benefactors.

Our friends Kate and Marcos asked us to come to Rome for the blessing of the statue of St Rafaela Maria (a saint from Cordoba) which Marcos sculpted and was being placed on the outside wall of the Vatican.  It was a huge honor for our friends, and we were invited to be at the special ceremony where the Holy Father blessed the statue.

God’s grace was so present as I carried each of you in my heart during this pilgrimage to Rome.  I pray that this same grace is made manifest in your lives at home, that you may be filled with the fullness of God.
